100 Supporters Launch
Cam-mind's Centenary Year
Sunday 20 January 2008—Cambridge
ONE HUNDRED supporters of the Cambridge-based mental health charity Cam-mind will make their mark on Parkers Piece on Sunday, 20 January, to launch the charity's Centenary Campaign — and a £100,000 fundraising appeal.
The 100 service users, staff, volunteers and friends will form a giant ‘1 0 0’ on the city location to raise awareness of the organisation's milestone celebrations this year (2008). Participants will be dressed alike, predominately in white, with every fourth person in blue to reinforce the fact that one in four people in the UK experience some kind of mental health problem during their lifetime.
An official ‘aerial view’ commemorative photograph is due to be taken at 12 noon — thanks to the loan of Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service's turntable ladder.
Established in 1908, Cam-mind is the longest established mental health charity in Cambridge, providing a broad range of community projects and services for the support of mental health service users in the region. These include supported housing, community-based groups and activities and one to one befriending.
The charity plans to use its centenary celebrations as a platform for raising awareness of mental health issues — together with urgently needed funds for new and existing projects.
