Cambridge City FC fans will get more than they bargained for when they have their car washed while watching the home match against Cirencester Town on Saturday — namely a 6ft chipmunk, in a T-shirt, with a shammy.
The novelty extra help is all part of City Hand Car Wash's fundraising efforts in the run-up to the On-Footse Top 100 charity event for local mental health charity Cam-mind.
The City Hand Car Wash business, on the Cambridge City FC site, is the latest employer to sign up for the On-Footse event, which takes place on Sunday 26 June and offers 100 men and women, representing up to 100 local employers, the opportunity to run the best mile they can to compete for a place in the unique ‘On-Footse’ Top 100 Index.
This Saturday, ‘Camilla’ the Chipmunk is the On-Footse's mascot has been invited to help clean cars in return for donations from customers.
Cambridge City Football Club is also supporting the event by allowing Cam-mind to collect from supporters during the Cirencester match.
This is the third year for the On-Footse, supported by the News, which attracts serious competitors and fun-runners alike. Entry fee for the event is just £30 per business/organisation. No sponsorship is required, but entrants are asked to hold a small fundraising activity — ie a dress up or down day — in aid of the charity.
This year's event will raise funds towards the work that Cam-mind is doing to raise awareness of mental health problems at work — and to help local employers tackle the issues of stress, depression and anxiety within their staff teams.
