Youth Mental Health First Aid courses

Cam-mind will be one of the first organisations in Cambridgeshire to offer a new Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course specifically designed for people who work with or are caring for young people aged 11 to 18.

Cam-mind has been running the adult MHFA courses for the past two years and has now delivered 15 in total to more than 150 people locally, receiving excellent feedback.

The exciting new Youth MHFA was launched by MHFA England in July last year. We are now trained up in this new youth course and are ready to start delivering it locally.

Youth MHFA is the help given to a young person experiencing a mental health problem, before professional help is obtained.

The course equips participants with the skills they need to recognise the symptoms of emotional / mental health problems, support a young person experiencing mental distress and signpost them appropriately. Although similar to the adult course, there are significant differences including much more information on self harm, eating disorders and alcohol/substance misuse.

We plan to run two subsidised courses over the next few months, for which places will be limited.

For further information about either the youth course or adult MHFA, please contact Aly Anderson at Cam-mind on 01223 311320 or email: development@cam-mind.org.uk contact us
